Make sure that the masking tape covers the entire area you are cutting. Make a cutting line for the measurement by using a pencil and straight edge.

Small cuts will result in a jagged bottom edge. Lay them on the saw and line up the blade where you need to cut. Wrap the slats with masking tape to prevent chipping. Cut along the new edge line of the first slat using 10 inch heavy duty shears or tin snips.

Use your measuring tape and measure the vertical height distance of the window opening from the where the rod will be to an inch or so above floor level. Then use a hacksaw or tin snips to cut the head rail along the line. Transfer the measurement of your window opening onto one of the vertical blinds.
